Backflow Prevention Program
Backflow Preventer Specialist: Survey, Installation, and Repair
To ensure the safety of everyone’s drinking water, the City’s Water Supply By-law requires property owners of industrial, commercial, institutional, and certain residential properties, as well as construction sites, to install a backflow prevention device on their water supply lines. This measure helps isolate buildings from the city’s water distribution system, preventing contaminants from entering the drinking water supply.
Our Services include:
– Installation
– Annual Testing
– Maintenance/Repair
Installation
To initiate your installation, we start with a complimentary quotation. Our qualified team will assess the specific application and determine the associated risk level, adhering to OWWA regulations. For accuracy, a site visit will be necessary. Once you approve the estimate, we will handle the submission of drawings and site details to secure the required permit. For larger projects, many municipalities may mandate engineered stamped drawings. After obtaining the permit, we will coordinate with the building owner and tenants to schedule a convenient installation time, ensuring any necessary water shut-off is communicated in advance. The installation will be carried out by a licensed plumber. After the work is completed, the municipal plumbing inspector will conduct an inspection and approve the installation. We will also submit any necessary forms to confirm that the project has been successfully completed.
Testing and Maintenance
All devices require annual testing with a report submitted to the local authority. Testing must be conducted using equipment that is properly documented to demonstrate calibration for accuracy. In the event of a device failure, we will promptly notify the customer. Upon receiving approval, we will proceed with repairs and retest the device. Once testing is successfully completed, the device will be tagged, and the necessary reports will be prepared and sent to our customer and submitted to the city.

Why is backflow prevention important?
Backflow prevention is vital for safeguarding your clean water supply from contaminants like chemicals, waste, and other hazardous materials that pose health risks.
